I could NOT believe the size of this egg from one of my RIs this morning!! Should I be worried? I'm posting some pics, showing it side-by-side to a normal RI egg and then next to a supermarket Jumbo egg. Yowza...first one of my chickens becomes a rooster, now one becomes an ostrich.

What an egg! I recently got one of those (might not have been quite as large, but it was huge) from one of my RIR pullets that are about 6 months old and it was a double-yolker, my first! I think it is something that sometimes happens when they first begin to lay and nothing to worry about.

    Congratulations! Genie

Hey I got one like that not too long ago that actually turned out to be an egg inside of an egg. Do you have any way of weighing it?

Yes, the regular brown egg weighed 2 oz. The big one weighed almost 3.5 oz.

Yowza! That was a big egg! Turned out to be egg in egg, you say?

I feel like my hen needs a spa day...or at least some ointment.

Yeah it was an egg inside of an egg. There is a pic of when I cracked it further on in that thread. After seeing that, I was looking around for a dead hen, but I never did figure out who laid it.
