I'm going to add a bar to clip a light on safely, and the light will shine down on the waterer only keeping it thawed. Last year when it got down to 0, the chickens water got a thin film of ice they broke through. Never did freeze solid with just a 75 w bulb in a brooder light.

With the bedding in there, other forms of heat scare me. With animals in there who can knock stuff over and what not, I can secure a light pretty safe.

I LOVE the heated run with the plastic around it. Put some shelves in there and it could double as a green house!

If you only have two, would you be interested in bringing them into your house so you don't have to build a new shelter? You could always purchase duck diapers which are on thegoosesmother.com

I bought one for my soon to come Cayuga

Oh, you're funny.

They have a very nice coop, I was just beginning to wonder how the water issue was going to be controlled. However...I wouldn't put it past myself to do just that.

I've had a chick who slept with me, god bless my husband and 8 chicks who traveled with me back and forth from home to work so they wouldn't be alone so it wouldn't be that big of a stretch.

I live in mid-Michigan and my ducks were fine all last winter as long as we kept part of the pond open for them. During a big storm we had last year the silly ducks were swimming! They have a quite nice duck house that they choose to ignore if at all possible. The only time they were in there was when we forgot to turn the pump that kept the pond open back on after a warmer day.

Oh man, I'm going to have to remember this one. Seems like it could work quite well with my set up. I can't seem to get away with water in the ducks' house because things get so wet, but it appears a wire frame that sits over a water proof trough would work great, something along the lines of a kitty litter pan? A heat lamp keeps our water thawed (barely) in our chicken coop in the winter, and I would love to not have to haul out hot water to try to thaw things for the ducks (which I've done the past two years). Thanks so much for posting your solution.
