Hi Barbara :frow

I had the most wonderful surprise this morning when I headed down the field! I was all set with the rag fork bag and gloves and when I got there it had been done :woot The girl who has her pony in the field with Harry had done it all  She is only 15 and is the foster sister of my friend who has Pickle with the gimpy leg. Well she has not been pulling her weight with Brannon ie only wanting to ride but not do the dirty jobs. She is a bit airy fairy at the best of times due to her up bringing but she is coming on better now with my friends mum and dad. She still needs the reminders though and she had had one off my friend to get some things done. Bit of a reprieve for me I know but how much poo picking I do I think we are about square now on field duties now.

Sounds like things are going great with Zak and I really hope it all goes well with the cross country :fl I've still not been out Harry, had to take my Nanna to the hospital on Tuesday, Monday was just mad with loads of business stuff. Today I had to do 4 months worth of book keeping so I could get the VAT return in. Tomorrow I have to take Charlie to the orthodontics for his braces doing again. Hoping Friday will be a bit easier day to get out on him!!

Good luck with the new broody!! You must have hatched more eggs with your broody hens than I have with incubator!! As you say though don't miss the opportunity while you can ;) I must get some updated pics of the Pekin chicks and the Wyandottes. Some are getting little red combs :( I'm thinking quite a few cockerels in there.

Hope your having a lovely evening :D

Hi Georgie
Great to hear Dave is doing better :highfive:

Hi again.
I dispatched her.
I took a view and decided it was the right choice for her.
However I did learn from this and I opened her foot to see - lo and behold there was a core in there.
Next time I'll be braver in the surgery.

I take this as good experience - I have learned lots through reading and the advice from yourselves.

Thank you

I'm sorry you had to dispatch her, always very sad when things like this happen but as you say a learning curve. Untill you do things you never know.
Hope all your others are doing well.

Yay!! Well done Dave and @Gge23 for turning him/her around.

My chicks are looking like 3 outta 5 are boys, I'm glad of 2 but not the 3rd. 2 of the suspect cockerel's are Silkies so only time will tell (I'm only going on their bolshy behaviour) one of the Thuringian's is sporting a much larger comb than it's sibling.....oh well!

@rebrascora I also have a further (now the 4th hen) going broody on me (a Silkie...typical), I don't really want any more youngsters this season so I'm in the process of breaking her. I lost my lovely Legbar hen 3 weeks ago to God knows what, breathing difficulties then dead in 24 hours, so I'm very jealous you have one! I miss those beautiful sky blue eggs :-(

Any how...Good evening all, chucks are tucked up but I have to put the ducks to bed before I turn in myself. Very windy here this evening so will have to get up early to check all the fencing...roll on the weekend!! Xx

Another broody :woot
Very windy here too, very unseasonable for the time of year. Sorry to hear bout your legbar :hugs I'm heading that way soon, to bed! All birds locked up and tucked in. At least it's a bit earlier now, not the after 10 pm job now :D

SNAP!

@Gge23

It's a shame you don't live closer or I would have been happy to let you have some of mine.

Symptoms can vary depending on the strain, but basically it affects the digestive system, so usually diarrhoea with or without blood, weak and lifeless and failure to thrive and it can be fatal. There don't seem to be any significant side effects to treating them with amprollium which is a thiamine blocker. The important thing is to give them vitamin B complex supplement once treatment is complete.

Regards

Barbara
