Hi Barbara,

I really don't put you to shame, once in goodness knows how many weeks is not too good on my part. Need to get my act together no matter what the weather is like! It was cold this morning :( Everything really frozen up and the ground is just rock hard. Hard to trudge back down the fields this morning with hay & haylage for the horses as there was just frost otherwise. I even had to get half a brick to bash the waters in. I'm glad I had the sense last night to get my chickens waters emptied so I could just refill them this morning. Got Harry wrapped up in three rugs as my blanket clip went disastrously wrong on Saturday afternoon
I made a right mess of it so ended up taking it all off barring a saddle patch, legs and half his head. Got quite a bit of his mane pulled too so he's looking a lot better :D

I was going to ride this afternoon but I spoke to nana yesterday and promised I would go through to see her so by the time I get back it will be too dark to hack out. Guess I could go in the arena but Harry not keen on going in there and neither am I to be quite honest. Fingers crossed I will be back on board tomorrow. Need to dig his woolly Newmarket excersize sheet out seen as how I've made a mess of the clip.

Speaking of nana I'm afraid no improvement, if anything things are going the wrong way. Still in the hospital with no news on if she can come home yet. I'm hoping they have some news when I go in this afternoon :fl

Charlie is doing great with his hand thanks. He says it does not hurt as such but there is still a lump on the side. He's been doing everything as normal and even been out with the gun. Not sure that was the best thing to do but I can't really stop him as I'm the same if I have an ailment. I'm sure my back would have got better quicker if I'd actually rested it properly but needs must. He has an auto shot gun though so you don't get quite as much kick from them as you do with a game shot gun, or at least I'm told. I don't like the kick off any of them!

Fingers crossed you got your boys processed and that they are looking nice and meaty for you!

Catch you soon Barbara,

Kim xx

Hi all.

I am in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

Am fairly new to keeping chickens and as the cold weather is gripping us here in the North am like a mother hen-excuse the pun-about keeping the girls warm.

I adopted three lovely ex-batts in May: Talula, Brenda and Sofia. They have gained lots of lovely feathers and look really healthy. Also acquired 2 mini and 1 rather large black silkies a month or so ago: Bridget, Nancy and Jackie - their owners had lost interest. Nancy and Jackie have been broody for nearly 2 weeks now so am having to take them from the coop and put them in a run during the day. If I didn't they wouldn't eat or drink. Any tips gladly received.

Looking forward to meeting other chicken mad people on here, maybe locally?

wondering how to stop the mental things from doing.
The conclusion I have come to is this some are easier to break than others some are stubborn like my black rock whom no matter what i done she was gonna be broody I locked her out of coop she went broody on floor and even on my back door step and my poor dogs bed only thing you can do is keep taking her out and it will be a game of who breaks first in my case with the one I was just mentioning it was me I gave up other times I've managed to do it, it just sends em a bit mental that's only way I can describe it.
I'm actually loosing patients with my Columbian black tail at mo as she persistently jumping over the fence as she is a lot smaller sending my others doo lally as I have my garden fenced off some for them some for me they have completely butchered there side not a blade of grass in sight and no matter what I do she just keeps jumping over funny
1f601.png
thing is if she sees me when she gets on fence and I go to door
1f6aa.png
she jumps back down naughty
1f608.png
little sh** she worse than the kids the others pick on her though coz she jumps over lol

any way welcome to the madness and hello all

Apologies for the delay! These are the two Polands. Let me know what you think.
