Arrgghhhh!!! So jealous of the Wyandottes! We very nearly got one from Nottingham County Show a few months back but she just didn't look healthy enough so we left her behind.....got a lovely Buff Orpington instead so all is well! The chicks look super x

I love them! They're colours are just spectacular and they are so placid and friendly, they haven't tried fighting with my other hens or anything, they just get on with their own business. They've fit in very well. It was a toss up between them and a pair of Barnevelders...though I spotted one of the Barnevelders had some problems with its feet that I didn't want to have to try and sort out (I am useless with feet!) so we opted for these two beauties instead and I am glad we did.
I'm happy to hear you think the chicks look ok, I will stop worrying about them now! Do you have any other pics of your feathered friends?

Great to hear all this good chat about the Wyandottes I have just hatched 4 of them and I have to say they are sweetest little things, very quiet in the brooder and are no causing hassle at all. Not like the racy little Pekin!! These Wyandottes seem to nod off a lot too. Often just stood there and they close their eyes and drift off to sleep. They are the most quietest chicks I've ever hatched


I just some pics of the 8 week old lavender Pekin cockerel and his troops, he's been quite the little 10 men keeping everyone in order, infact he his turning into a bully boy ~

Awwwww....now THEY are gorgeous! Such cute little fluffies! I see you have your chicks in a similar broody box to me...except mine is blue how do you provide food/water? Because my little darlings have got to the stage now where it's hilarious to keep filling the food and water with sawdust so I have to empty it out about 5 times a day...was considering a nipple drinker but I am not convinced it'll fit on top of the brooder.

Right now they have only been in there since Friday, by Tuesday they will be out in the shed so food and water is not so much a problem. I have a netted frame that goes over the door so they gets lots of fresh air but can't escape. Once they get a bit bigger and I don't think other birds will swoop in and take them I let them out into the run. Then when they are even bigger I'm sure they will escape just as the polish did in this pic :/

No tips I'm afraid for keeping things clean in the Guinea cage. They just love to scratch! I just have a normal chick drinker and shallow food dishes in there right now ~

Your Polish look very dapper ^_^ I've always found them to look rather comical...and wonder how on earth they can see anything under all those feathers!

You could try putting their food and water on a small box or something? Something that's a tad higher so they can't scratch as much into them? I do know that scratching the shavings in is a real pain in backside

Polish sure are comical things Some I do have to trim as they can't see well at all. But in general they get about well.

Yeh that doesn't sound like a bad idea...might see if I can find something to put it on to.
They're a bit small for my liking, I prefer a bit of a fuller figured bird but I do just love watching them when I see them, it's like every move is an effort to make are they can see where they are going!
Just tried putting my 8 week old chick in with the older hens...didn't go down so well. One of them just went straight for her and there was a lot of screaming going on. Poor little thing was terrified, so we've put her back in her own coop again. Maybe try again when she is a bit bigger...poor little thing seems almost feral...has no one to look after her and just jumps around and screams a lot trying to escape :/ hope she calms down overnight so we can think of another way to introduce her.
