Thanks all! She seems much better today, so I have a vets appointment at 5 and can monitor to see if I think she still needs to go. She slept in the conservatory last night as she needs to be separate, and after letting the other girls out, this is how I found them!

They are clearly missing her!

She's back locked in the run today, while they roam, but seems much brighter. Fingers crossed.

Hi everyone

Well Georgia has been to the vets this afternoon. She had a prolapse two days ago, which with the help of someone on here we treated at home and seems to be healing well. However, she has also been pooing green poo and hasn't really been eating or even drinking much. The vet said that the prolapse is generally a sign of something being amiss internally and he wasn't sure she would be OK. He suggested antibiotics, which we are trying (baytril) but he didn't seem very optimistic about her recovery. We are going to observe her over the weekend and if things don't improve make some tough decisions early next week.

Fingers crossed she can come back from this.

Hi Tandia....how is Georgia doing? I've dealt with most chicken/duck ailments but a prolapse is a new one for me. I do hope that all is well. Sasha xx

Thanks for asking! She is doing so much better. The vet left me feeling pretty negative about her prospects, but she is definitely eating again, she has been very good with taking the antibiotics and the prolapse is all cleared up. I've let her mix with the other girls, and although she is possibly now bottom of the pecking order she isn't suffering too much. I've still been a bit worried about leaving her with them at night, so I've been shutting her in the house and leaving the others out on the roof - where they often seem to sleep anyway! (The house is in a run which is secure.) We are going to brave leaving them together tonight, although I'm planning to check on her shortly!

Hello again everyone.

Well, it's all been exciting.
Our first hatch and 6/6 still going strong!
I had the unfortunate dispatch of my sick Sussex.
And now my broody is broody again only 8 weeks after her hatch!

I have an indoor pen which I used for her as a brood and then used it to segregate the sick hen. Tonight I have cleaned it again ready for the broody!

So my flock so far
1 Amber
2 Calder Rangers
1 speckldy
1 Pyde
1 Blue
1 Rhode Rock
1 Groninger Meeuwen Bantam
3 light Sussex pullets
3 French Copper Blue Maran

What shall I add?
I am hoping to grow a flock and have enough bloodies to produce meat for us too.

I would love to breed Groninger Meeuwen as they are so pretty - my profile pic is our bantam! She had a mate but he just keeled over after having him only a month.

Congrats! Are you after a coloured egg collection? (I always am), if so, a cream legbar for a beautiful sky blue egg might be a nice addition and an olive egger (legbar hybrid) are nice too.....oh, maybe a leghorn for a big white egg. I love my Silkies, i have 5, so I'd always add them. I'm also the proud owner of 2 Swedish Flower Hens which I must say are the friendliest animals I've ever owned and I'd always recommend this breed. I've never come across a Groninger but I'm a proud mamma hen to 2 Thuringian's which are a larger bantam breed not too dissimilar to your profile picture (albeit they are darker). Keep us informed on your new choices!! Sasha xx
