Hi there!
I'm living in the North of the UK (Lancashire) and began my journey with corturnix quail about 2 months ago. I live in a small stone house with a small garden, so even though I don't have room for chickens, I was glad to learn I had room for quail. And, well, I've already had plenty of flock drama since then, despite feeling like I'd done tons of research on this website before hand! But I'm learning, and enjoying these quirky little birds.

I have a flock of 5 females and a male, although my male has been a bit aggressive ( and I'm now realising why the people who had him before me were VERY keen to give him to me), and I might have to send him to freezer camp sadly with 2 injured hens now. So, I'm still managing and working out the logistics of my main flock at the moment, whilst nursing injured hens and building myself upto to dispatching my first quail...

I'm also brooding a set of 8 chicks from eggs I purchased and incubated. They're now 2 weeks old!

I also wanted to say thank you to everyone on the site. I've learnt so much from questions that have already been asked and the wisdom shared. BYC has been my main go-to for research and problem solving. Thank you all!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Quail are a lot of fun to keep, I've kept both Quail and Chickens and I found the Quail to be quite delightful. You don't really need a male unless you want fertile eggs, if he is too aggressive or causing trouble, its best to remove him from the flock. The girls will appreciate it.

Best wishes with your birds!

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Your place sounds so awesome and I too would love to see it, and your birds too.

building myself upto to dispatching my first quail...
That can very hard, especially your first time, or when you actually like the birds. I've dispatched rooster or two that it was my pleasure. Out here we can use a shotgun but if you need to know how, let us know as there are several ways others can share with you.

Welcome to BYC! Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your male, multiple injured hens is never a great sign. Good luck figuring out what you will do with the guy!
