I agree with rosemarythyme walk in are way easier to keep clean and it doesn’t seem like a chore more like spending time and interacting with the flock, plus more space = less cleaning) I have seen really nice sheds for under $1000. My husband built my 28x8 cooprun (what I call it as it’s not traditional coop run but meant for them to stay in during the nasty winters) for about $1000. I love being able to walk from on end to the other without tripping over chickens and space for everything. Me and the kids spend a lot of time out there with them even in bad weather.

Where I live that would fly away in the winds. Even if you laid the frame in concrete... the winds would rip it right up & off.
I’d worry too about the plastic in summer. Yes wood is probably just as hot but wood breathes. I dunno I think I’d be looking at other options if it were me, just sayin’.

I'm short and even my run and coop I have to duck a bit to get into, so I completely agree with being able to walk in easily for cleanup.

Wow! I love your set up. My grandkids would love to be able to walk in and play with the chickens like that. And your chickens have so much room, they surely are very happy.

Thank you I really like it. I have Silkies and we have snow on the ground from November to April with ave snowfall totals of 120” so I wanted something dry and out of the elements for extended period. I like to just go in there sit on a stump and watch them. I do let them out in the yard when I’m home and watch them.

I don't know where you live, but how would it hold up in extreme weather? Do you plan to heat it, if necessary? Honestly, a stick-built shed would be your best bet investment. Plus, when you're done w/ chickens you'll have a shed or if it's still in decent condition you can recover the money you put into it.

Here are my two stick-builts.
The blue one cost around $1,600, but I went with an expensive paint, better materials and had to winterize. I think it's an 8 x 10. Egg boxes are on the back and it has a lift-top so I don't have to go in the coop to get eggs.

The green one was originally $800 and built for 4 bantams, but I had to renovate some after I added another 3 bantams.

I like the everything plastic idea, for easy cleaning. The multi access points appeal to me too. With the run and stand, it will run a little over $1000. I don’t want to spend that kind of money if it’s not going to live up to its hype though.

Thoughts?? Opinions?? Suggested alternatives?

That's pricy for 3 or 4 hens! Dems is some eggspensive eggs! Have you looked in your local Craigslist and FB chicken pages for someone who builds coops? You can probably get a NICE hand-built custom coop for considerably more than 3-4 hens for $1000.00! And the advantage is that whoever is building it has probably created many coops specifically for your area. So with more insulation if you're up north, or more ventilation if you're down south. Predator-proof for varmints in your particular neck of the woods. AND you're supporting local small business owners. At least give your local guys a shot.

Thank you everyone for your wonderful advice! I’m ditching the Ultimate Chicken Coop in favor of a shed. I’ll post pictures when I finish the conversion. I can’t wait to get started!
