Anyone have luck with ultrasonic pest repellents in the coop? I've got waaaay too many mice, though I do take in feeders at night. My cats seem to have lost their hunting mojo, I'm concerned about the chicks getting into soaked cotton balls or other deterrents, and I prefer not to use lethal means. Live trapping would be a never ending task. My neighbor gave me something called the P7816 Ultrasonic Attack Wave Pestrepeller, which gets fair reviews on Amazon, including a couple from flock keepers. It operates at a frequency between 30,000 Hz and 65,000 Hz, which should be well above what a chicken can hear, which I've read online is 9.1 Hz to 7,200 Hz. On the other hand, it wasn't supposed to bother her cat, and it did, cats having a much broader hearing range.

I'm not out anything if it doesn't work, but I want to make sure I won't hurt my birds by experimenting. This question gets asked periodically, I know, but the products are always evolving.

sorry I doubt I"ll be much help probably been 25 years since I tried such a device and it was a total flop but with the way everything electronic has evolved I'd not be suprised if somthing was moderately effective. BUT I doubt it would last theyd figure out it hasn't killed em and go back to where the food was good. My best deterent has been to leave them no place to hide where the food is out and the chickens (especilly my buff orpingtons) take care of em. bulk food is seald up so they can't get it.

None of my current flocks seem to be mouse-killers, unfortunately. Thanks for responding, though!
