Hi can anyone help...
My first batch of home bred chicks are hatching however the first one out looks like the embilical cord is wrapped around its left leg! Its up and walking but it looks horrible and uncomfortable. Im also worried about infection...
Has anyone has this before? Or similar? Or any idea what i can do?
Thank you x

I realise this is an old thread but had something similar happen to a hatchling this morning. It appeared as if the leg had grown through the umbilical cord. Every time the chick moved its leg its intestines appeared to come through the stomach wall a little. I had to cut through it. It was not a thick as this and I hope it was the umbilical cord and not the intestines. I pushed the intestines back in sprayed with bird antiseptic spray and sealed with a small peace of surgical tape. I don't suppose the chick featured in this thread made it?

I had one born leg not all the way there. Through the umbilical cord and through the small intestines could not push intestines back we had to uthanize it. Myself it was hard

I know this thread is old, but what ended up happening with your chicks? I hatched a chick like this this morning. I ended up cutting the cord because she couldn’t walk. She seemed great by the evening so… 🤞
