I thought I followed the directions to a T for calibrating my hydrometer, but thought since it seemed so far off that I would buy a new one at Walmart today. The first one came with my LG incubator I got from IncubatorWarehouse, appeared to be way off by 9 (got a 66% RH)... so I put it back in the bator and add the new one in... they are both reading 33% - here is my setup...

LG bator w/ fan & turner
filled the ring but not the two other troughs(sp?) with water
I pulled the plug farthest from the fan
99-100.4* F temps (varies across 4 thermometers)
33% humidity

I have 2 that I calabrated, one is 10% low and the other is 14% low. go figure, I wrote on them with sharpie to remind my self to add.

Walmart humidity anythings....BAH

Its hit or miss if they WORK i feel.
I finally found after buying about 4 a SINGLE little $7 acutemp temp & humidity
that would read close to the actual humidity... i have another more expensive one.
"calibrated" and it showed a few numers off. Ok I calculate in my head..... but using it would open the incubator to add water when the pan dried out and get hit with a sauna wave of humidity... didnt seem "right" to me
So i threw all my hygromters for all my incubators in the one.... humidity is showing like 80!!!!!!!!!!!! the expensive $25 one from walkmart that "calibrated" close was only showing 30! I dont trust them. I have like 3 different thermometers and hygrometers in each incubator just to double check everything...

Its enough to make me crazy... told hubby last night when I first started incubating about 7 years ago and then quit for a few years, I didnt have a way to check humidity and I had almost 100% hatch rate! I knew less and tinkered with it less and did much better. I filled the water trays and kept the temp steady and voila...
I have another incubator that I kept forgetting to check the humidity and kept drieing out... due to hatch Next week. Candeled last night and all but like 3 of 40 eggs were wiggling and moving around like madwith good air cells. I am going to be less picky on this hatch and add a little water on lockdown and see how it goes without going crazy trying to keep the humidity right....

Where do I even place these things now and once the eggs are in? That could make a big difference for me - right now they are on top of plastic eggs, but everything is screwy, LOL -
thermometer w/ LG - 99.5*
thermometer w/ egg turner - 100*
thermometer free from Incubator Warehouse - 96* / 34% (add 9 according to calibration = 43%)
thermometer from Walmart (Springfield Precise temp - LOL whatever) - 100.4* / 29%

all are in different spots though

thermometer w/ egg turner - 100*
thermometer free from Incubator Warehouse - 98.7* / 32% (add 9 according to calibration = 41%)
thermometer from Walmart (Springfield Precise temp - LOL whatever) - 100.2* / 28%

So I am ranging from 98.7 to 100.4* - with RH @ 40% between all 5 thermometers I have in there now (added my candy one that goes down to 90*, LOL, it matches @ 99*) - I also took my regular thermometer , put it in the vent hole I opened up and it read 99.8* with the heater not running then 100.4* when it kicked on. I think everything is stable now. Is is safe to put the eggs in??

hi, check out my BYC page and see for ur self where my therm/hum gages are. yes they will both read a little differently, but not to much. and does ur gage have a high low memory? I keep that at low 97 high 100 - 102. NO higher NO lower have I ever had. and I had 14 out of 22 hatch Easter, and have 12 more in there now and 2 under a broody ( I don't trust her, she's young)

I forgot what the problem was??? (Man I could use a better memory) ur temps sound good, my humidity gets to like 30 and I add a bit of water like 6 tsp. and it brings it up to like 40. I only add water only when my Hygrom. reads 16 which is really 30. (dumb thing) I add the same amount of water every time. I let it fall to 30 THEN add water, I do not add water till then.

DId that help at all??

Sounds good maybe lower the hum. a little by removing some of the water. Which reminds me, how r u gonna add water after the eggs are in??

Also, a warning................. ur 'bator is going to flip out for a couple/5 hours after u place the eggs in there. just keep ur hands off let the eggs warm up and in like 12- 24 hours check temps again.

Good luck
