Umm, I'm not sure whats going on here?!

Nope.

Still AWOL. We searched all around for them and never found a sign. Not a feather. The rest of my gaggle seems lost. They stood outside the coop calling and calling. I had to pick them up one at a time and carry them inside.

I hope you find your lost geese. I would be devastated if mine were lost.

On another note....I noticed today that some people are selling goose eggs on ebay already. Trying to make that almighty buck, I guess.

I didn't read the full thread, but I've heard the frigid cold and then the sudden warm weather the north has been having lately has caused the birds to think it was spring...

Maybe it was cold at your place for a while then warmed up?

Well that is typical for Michigan any time of year...warm, cold, warm ,cold.
I can remember 70º days mid November.
But we haven't had great fluctuations in the temps
this fall.

Vicky,

I've been interested that so many of you are getting eggs now. My crew is noisy right now, and 4 of them are new this year, 2 that I hatched and 2 that I purchased, so suspect they are choosing mates. But no one is making nests and no one is actually mating.

I think your theory on soy is an interesting one. I got soy out of my diet about a year ago, when I learned how NOT good for you it was. And the geese, are on Organic SOY FREE feed. Soooo....??? Maybe your theory is correct? Who else has their geese on soy free out there? And what is their current breeding behavior? I find this topic very ineteresting.

I tried to find SOY FREE poultry feed last year with no luck here in Alabama. If I could find some without it I would surely buy it. So I mix my feed for everyone here(chickens, ducks, geese, peafowl) to try to reduce the intake of SOY. I will never feed "just" pellets alone again.

Didn't read every post. . .
My young goose is loving having her back rubbed right now, but no eggs.

My call duck pen is very active, though. The boys are very interested, and I get 1-2 eggs a day from the 6 girls. They are laying much better than I expected for calls overall.

My waterfowl pen is under a security light all night. Is that good or bad for breeding activity and such?

Calls are actually in mostly dark, though.
