* UMMM-WHAT DROUGHT?? IT'S MONSOONING HERE AT THE MOMENT!!!!!!!

* I lived in Santa Cruz, Aptos & Capitola when my kids were little. Youngest was born at Dominican. How bad is it???? Hope not so bad that the houses are sliding down to the river again come fall. . . That was awful.

Then you are probably familiar with the Moss Landing smoke stacks? I'm just inland from there, I get my mail at the Moss Landing post office. The fire is still burning, not good, 20 homes have been lost. Animals have been moved to the SC County fairgrounds.

* Sure! I now exactly! We used to eat calamari across the street from the plant and my step-dad, 1 bro and DH built a gill-netter in a old barn on---? Hough Slough Road, I think it was called! Where's the core of the fire now??

Approximately 4000 acres have burned. It is 70% contained now. Unfortunately, I think they said 36 homes lost. Some evacuees are able to return now. Some roads are open again, like Brown Valley rd, Eureka Cyn and a few others but Mt Madonna area still closed. Still investigating the cause.

Residents who live in the following areas will be allowed to return to their homes after 3 p.m.:

*
* Eureka Canyon Road and Rider Road to Ormsby Road
* Hazel Dell Road
* Buzzard Lagoon Road
* Browns Valley Road
Croy Road

Fire officials reminded residents to be cautious and drive slowly due to fire equipment in the area.

Mt. Madonna, Loma Prieta and Summit roads all remained closed.

The fire was expected to be fully surrounded by Tuesday, fire officials said. The blaze still threatened 100 homes.

While some evacuees were being let in on an hour-by-hour basis to survey the damage, hundreds of residents remained under evacuation orders following the outbreak of the fire in the mountainous region about 15 miles south of San Jose.
