So I'm on a budget, and I've chosen to buy a cheap chinese incubator from eBay. Is there such thing as too low? I bought this one specifically (The 56 version) https://www.ebay.com/itm/203461514242 for only about $16. There's also this one, it's cheaper, but I've noticed a pattern with the ones that look like this, they disappear soon after a few sales. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133769088084 And just as I'm typing this, I had another one, a dollar less, and the seller has disappeared! The seller and item: https://www.ebay.com/usr/m.z.racin0 & https://www.ebay.com/itm/124736760564 All of these sellers have a few things in common, they all sell the same item, most joined in April, and have 2-3 reviews that have sometimes been exactly the same. Are these people scammers? I know this happened to me once, but eBay gave me my money back. Does it come out of their own pockets? Do they get away? Please reply if you know anything about this, and stay safe!

I wound not buy this you can get a goodish one from Amazon for 50-150 but never get one like that or the round ones with an yellow base. What is likely happening is that they seller doesn’t really have the product and is selling a few, then will disappear and try no to get cought.

This does not look trustworthy to me, I would not buy it.

If you are on a tight budget, buying an experienced broody might be the thing to do. Will not only save you electricity bill, but also heartache and worries with the chicks.
Around this time of year people complain a lot about their chickens going broody all the time and some are willing to sell.

Ah well, I've already bought it, I'll just have to wait and see. Good idea for a broody hen though. Might try that.

There are many, many listings for the same cheap incubators on eBay and on Amazon. You can buy wholesale on Alibaba and ship directly to an Amazon warehouse where Amazon will take over distribution. Many American businesses buy wholesale on Alibaba and resell on eBay and Amazon so a lot of the incubators are actually the same with a different label. Price isn't always a good indication of quality, though the prices mentioned by the OP are drastically low and would sound all the alarms, bells and whistles for me. I don't know if the opportunists are breaking any laws by selling junk cheaply but complaints to eBay and Amazon would dampen their sales. Bottom line is buy the best you can afford, make sure there is a return policy that will protect you, and start with inexpensive fertile eggs. Happy hatching :jumpy :jumpy :jumpy

To make sure you buy at least two thermometers to calibrate before you put eggs in that.
Also go ahead and order a humidity gauge and salt test it before you set eggs.
