Uncertain chicken death😢

We had a chicken called Mimi who was a perfect layer and her eggs were the best! But then one morning I go to let the chickens out and she has a red behind... further investigation led to it being a prolapse. We got an egg out of it and the prolapse went smaller but yesterday it became really big. I put her in a warm bath but she died and we aren’t sure if she was egg bound or if it was an infection. Any help would be appreciated as we are thinking of getting another since we only have two and one is broody at the moment which isn’t helpful

Very likely she died from the stress of the prolapse. Have you considered getting fertile eggs and allowing the broody to raise chicks ?

Ye could have been that and we don’t really like the idea of getting chicks because we already have a dog and a cat running round the house
