Unconventional Incubation of One Cracked Egg-Update, Aug 16-No Go, Dang It!

Thanks! I have been reading the articles and post on hear for a while, but signed up for an account a few months ago.
Not unusual for folks to lurk for a long time before actually joining up. Glad you did!

Good luck with the egg I hope the little guy makes it.
Thanks! Another new member-welcome!

Today is Day 17. We candled the egg with fresh batteries to be absolutely sure. It has expired. It did continue to grow a bit after we brought it inside, however, either due to the trauma from being crushed or the too-high heat from the heating pad debacle (can't be sure hubby is to blame, really), it quit on us, probably yesterday. Sad because I wanted another of Georgie's chicks, but her other egg under Dottie was perfectly fine at last candling, along with the others.

There are three eggs with Dottie, plus a fourth that is 5 days behind I put in for "insurance"- since Dottie had already sat two weeks on infertile eggs before I started her over with these, I didn't want her to end up with nothing again. She's a dedicated broody, that girl. When the three hatch, I'll have to decide what to do with #5 since it's 5 days behind the others.

For those who know my birds, the eggs under Dottie belong to Georgie, Serena, Delia and one egg that I wasn't sure who it belonged to, but I think it was one of the BR hens, maybe Dru, Dottie's daughter.
