Im trying to descide whether or not to raise babies, I have (4) 10 wk olds, and (4) 6 week olds. However I missed that little baby phase, and would love to add a couple silkies to my mix anyway. What exactly would go into starting up with little ones, cost wise, and where it is mid june, in NH, would it be too cold for them once they graduate to the coop? thanks so much,
I apologize for the "dumb" questions, im brand new to chicken world! LOVING IT

. For babies you would need a brooder ( I use totes), heat light and holder ( I use red bulbs) Walmart sells both. I assume you have chick starter, food and water containers. A thermometer (start at 95 degrees decrease by 5 degrees every week). Bedding.
Good luck on whatever you decide.

If you got 3-day old chicks this coming weekend, you'd be brooding them about 8 weeks (give or take), and they'd go outside to a coop about the end of the first week of August. They'd be feathered out, but would continue to put on more feathers and fill out, getting bigger and past that awkwared "teenage" phase..... and would be good to go for Autumn and Winter.

Hope that helps your decision making process.
