under ripe watermelon

I did, and they did! My neighbor had some watermelon that he donated to me for the geese. I did not realize they were not fully ripe. Next, the beautiful apples on his tree and maybe some frozen grapes! All is not lost for their favorite treats, at least for a little while.

Thanks for the replies!

Generally, chickens won't eat - certainly not to excess - anything which is of danger to them in the short term unless they have no other choice. Watermelons, being largely water, like cucumber, canteloupe, and similar fruits are even less dangerous than most treats preciesly because of the high water contents.

As long as they always have fresh water and reasonable amounts of a balanbced ration available, the occasional treat is just fine.
