We are planning chicken areas interfacing with the rest of the yard with fences and thoroughfares etc.

We would like to get chickens from one are of the yard to another while not blocking a thoroughfare.

We have an 18” pipe we are looking to bury just below the surface and hope the chickens will enter and exit it to daylight on each side.

Its 10ft long.

Any comments or suggestions?

Thanks,

todd

Chickens won’t walk into a dark pipe whether there’s light at the end or not. Chickens cannot see well in the dark so they avoid it.

If you could put lights in the pipe it might help, but chickens do not really like new things or changes.

My other question other than the issue with lack of light (which the tunnel could be lit up, I don't see why not) is how will you access it for maintenance or emergencies? You'll need to be able to add some sort of litter to walk on, and you'll need some way of clearing out poop. And if a sick or injured bird is hiding down there, you'll need a way of reaching it easily.
