Underground RR Quilt Block

All I know right now is that I'm going to try a star sashing in blue and gray. I hope that I can do it justice.

I've been drafting some ideas. I know I'm going to do an oversized "center" square. I was thinking of combining 3 undone blocks. I was thinking of doing a wagon wheel that has a tumbling block center and a rose of Sharon wreath applique around the outside of the wheel.

I was thinking about double sashing, but only on two sides, one wider and one narrower one my butterfly print the other a pieced rr track, but doing the corner block of the sashing a friendship star, so I don't have to miter or anything like that.

I'll have to do a mock up and see if it is tooooooo busy, may have to rethink the sashing.

I've been debating between a scrappy strip sashing or a simpler dark sashing. I will have to experiment with what I have.

Just found the extra little surprise from our friends in England still in the package. Thank you so much! Now to keep it from my daughters.

The nail files are so cute, and I was thinking a dark deep red with some sort of design in it I have it in my mind but finding it maybe all together a different story

There was a note attached to mine about the block. It isn't a starfish. She wrote that the "center represents the darkness of slavery. It gets lighter as you move away from the dark center." I love how it is "hidden" or camoflaged in the center but more open and defined as the star increases.

Cool, I didn't see the note. I thought the paper just told who made it. lol
