I really enjoyed this:
It was deep dusk. I was sitting in the garden. Tooshtoosh and Mrs. T. were just finishing their wheat -- and we note that the consorts, the less tame birds, always leave the wheat first.
So, Mrs. T. got up, and headed off to the fig tree. They roost in various spots, but down behind the fig is a favourite.
Tooshtoosh was still on his knees, pecking up the last grains.
Mrs. T. vocalized quietly. It obviously meant: ‘Come on. Roost now.’
T. went: ‘No wait. Just a few more grains.’
Mrs. T. stood still and quiet for about thirty seconds, then want: ‘Come on. Roost now.’
T. went: ‘Wait. Just a couple more!’
Then Mrs. T. started drifting into the gums – they always go together.
T. got up. And headed off to the right. And went: ‘No. Over here.’
Mrs. T. just ignored him, and moved quietly into the gums.
T. stood for about twenty seconds. Then followed her.
