So I have bred two birds: a Millie Fluer Cochin Bantam and an unknown hatchery bird, labeled as a “BBW Turkey”. The Dad is the Cochin, a good example (IMO) of the breed. He and his siblings looked pretty similar growing up and all are the same in having a red wheaten base with a little bit of flowering.

The Mom lays blue eggs, is white with some black spots (barely any), and a pea or rose comb I assume.

Thing is, the two babies of theirs look extremely different. My guess is because of the mom. There could possibly be some other color hiding under the white if the white is dominant (if I got that one correct). But the comb on one is single, and the other is like her Mom’s comb. One chick is white, the other has a design like a not wheaten based chick. When the parents were chicks, they were both a sandy blonde plain wheaten based color. That threw me off a bit. What do you think? (I’m not good at genetics, have no background knowledge on it.)

Also, they both have feathered feet and just hatched today.

The mother is an Easter egger. Recessive white covers anything underneath it, but doesn’t appear in the offspring unless the other parent also has recessive white. Since the mother is mixed, she could only have one copy of dominant white, meaning only one of her chicks got the dom white gene. However, that usually results in black chicks. I think you’ll have to wait until they’re fully feathered to know their genetics.
