Oh, that sounds nice. Your pen is more than double the size of mine.
I have a Brown Leghorn (Margo) and she is great! She is the most flighty, but she is also the most cuddly. She just came out of phase 2 of her molt (for some reason she molted, stopped, came back into lay, and then stopped again to molt on her head. I was actually glad her body got a nice long break, as she’s such a prolific layer and I don’t want her little body too stressed). Bridgey is a Barred Rock and she rocks! She’s just such a cool bird. A bit hefty, but just so confident and calm. Love her.
One of my pullets, Cashew, is a Buff Orp. She is a cuddler, too! So sweet. Interestingly, she’s ranked pretty high with the pullets, despite what I read about them often being low in the pecking order. I suppose as I get more years and more chickens under my belt, I will learn which traits come with the breed and which are the individual chicken’s personality. So far, there isn’t a breed I’ve had that I wouldn’t keep. Poor little Rusty was the least cuddly, but she was cool in other ways. When my neighbor would chop wood, she’d come running to get the grubs! Never thought I’d see a chicken CHOOSE to hang out near a swinging ax. He’d sometimes have to stop and shoo her out of the way. LOL!
