Undetected Injury-FALSE ALARM-POOP

Thank you! A Buckeye wasn’t even on my radar. I was stuck in the “pretty feathers and good personality” mode, and of course all the most popular breeds came up. The lady at the feed store told me about Buckeyes when I was ordering my chicks. I did my own research and decided she was worth a shot. I’m so happy to have her!
I've been there too! I still like pretty feathers and personality, but it's fun to try different breeds, some will really surprise you. I have a White Leghorn that was "free". I would have never chose this breed because of "flighty" and "does better free range". But she is an absolute joy, she's very friendly, chatty and does very well with the big girls in a run. I do have a fairly large run of approx 410sqft which helps. The only flight she does is to my shoulder or hops on my back when I'm scooping poop, just chattering away:) I want to explore more breeds overtime, but a couple of breeds like Barred Rocks and Orpingtons, I will probably always try to keep.

Oh, that sounds nice. Your pen is more than double the size of mine.
I have a Brown Leghorn (Margo) and she is great! She is the most flighty, but she is also the most cuddly. She just came out of phase 2 of her molt (for some reason she molted, stopped, came back into lay, and then stopped again to molt on her head. I was actually glad her body got a nice long break, as she’s such a prolific layer and I don’t want her little body too stressed). Bridgey is a Barred Rock and she rocks! She’s just such a cool bird. A bit hefty, but just so confident and calm. Love her.
One of my pullets, Cashew, is a Buff Orp. She is a cuddler, too! So sweet. Interestingly, she’s ranked pretty high with the pullets, despite what I read about them often being low in the pecking order. I suppose as I get more years and more chickens under my belt, I will learn which traits come with the breed and which are the individual chicken’s personality. So far, there isn’t a breed I’ve had that I wouldn’t keep. Poor little Rusty was the least cuddly, but she was cool in other ways. When my neighbor would chop wood, she’d come running to get the grubs! Never thought I’d see a chicken CHOOSE to hang out near a swinging ax. He’d sometimes have to stop and shoo her out of the way. LOL!

Yep, the Barred Rocks do seem to have that calm, confident personality. For the BO's same with mine, they were squarely in the middle of the pecking order. I lost a few birds last year, so now one of my BO's is 2nd in command -LOL I never figured on that one, if thought for sure the New Hampshires would take over, but they are pretty chill. The only breed that I'm not that keen to get more of (at least right now) is Wyandottes. They are beautiful but aloof and seemed to have a mean streak:hmm

I'd love to transition to Buckeyes someday!
