Unexpected Bantam Chick, Help!

Aww that's super nice of you!

Unfortunately I'm in Syracuse and it looks like you're in Saratoga, which is a bit too far for me to be able to make the trip out there. Thank you though, that's very nice of you!

I did hang the little parakeet mirror for my chickie and it seems to calm him/her down a little bit, but we're still holding it as much as we can during the day so it isn't so isolated.
Aww, poor chickie! Yah,. that's probably a bit far to go for one chick. Check over in the NY thread (https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/231485/ny-chicken-lover) - there are lots of peeps out your way that could have a chick to spare!

Buy a feather duster and hang it in the cage and it will think its momma and snuggle under it. It should help while you are not there.

Oh that's quite a clever idea also!

Redbarn - I did hang a little parakeet mirror in his brooder and he seems to have spent most of his day over there when I was at work judging from where all of his droppings are :p It does seem to help a bit but he still looks a little sad.

Featherz - Thanks for the link, I'll check it out now and see if there are any prospects in there.

Good news!

We managed to find some chicks for our little peep to socialize with! They are a couple weeks older than him but they're both pullets and very gentle buff Japanese maybe? I thought they were OEGB when I first picked them up but there was a mix of both running around the barn.

He took to them right away, and they've been extremely patient with all of his curious stepping, scratching, pecking and nosiness.

Here's a sort of blurry picture from last night about an hour after we introduced them.

That is a nice ending to your story!!
I just had a similar situation where I gave up trying to keep up with a broody hen. I tried everything to get her out of her funk. I let her sit on eggs, the others would make a mess of the eggs so I never thought any would hatch. Thursday I came home with a upset hen and a baby chick running outside in the pen. I moved her and the chick along with 2 of the eggs left as she still wanted them under her to a separt small coop inside the run. Thank goodness a second one hatched yesterday. Now I have to figure out what to do with them so I am on a thread search for help. If we open the small coop the other hens want in and peck at the chicks and momma hen gets all upset. I dont like isolating her ~ but maybe thats what I am sopose to do. Now I have another hen that I cant get out of her broodiness. She actually was sitting on the eggs also for a week, but when I moved both hens she decided they were not her chicks even thought she welcomed it prior to the move.
Good luck with your new chicks.

Mrsp523 - Well I'm so glad to hear you had 2 hatch together! I wish I knew what to tell you as far as what to do with your hen, but if our hen wanted to mother the chick we would have set her up in our garage in our 6x6 chick run to keep the other hens from bothering the chick. Best of luck to your new little chicks & mom! :)
