Unexpected Death of RIR!!NEED ADVICE

My ds just found one of our 20 week old RIR dead in the run. She was perfectly healthy an hour ago. He found her curled up and dead. I'm just trying to figure out what happened. She's just started laying too.

My poor ds is so upset. It almost seems like she broke her neck. Her legs are tucked up under her and her body is stiff, but her neck is very limp. The only other thing I can think of it that she choked on the scratch I had just put out. Could any of those be a possibility?

Sorry to hear that. It could be any number of things. Sometimes, we just never know what happened. With no symptoms, could be an injury or just anything.

If it was natural causes can we eat her?

I had this happen to my RIR 9/29, I narrowed it down to sour crop and or botulism. I would eat an animal unless I was sure what killed it. You never know:/
