Just got a call from a friend who cracked open one of my hens UNFERTILIZED egg and it had a partially formed chick ! How can this happen ????

My best guess is that you have someone in your coop who isn't what they appear to be

Just sayin'.

Oh, and

What was she describing as a "partially formed chick"? Some folks mistake the chalaza (sp?) and other things like a large meat spot for a chick forming.

She described a chick with a partially formed wing or appendage, fuzz, with no eyes or beek.

LOL...then that's something else in there.

Chicks don't grow fuzz until the last stages, well after the beak and eyes form.

Probably was a meat spot, a part of the reproductive tract that sloughed off in there.

That's weird. You've either got a rooster in drag, a hen that's wandered to a visiting roo or a roo visiting you.
You didn't by any chance just get these hens did you? A hen stores the sperm for several weeks.
By the way, welcome to BYC!

I told her that what she was describing was impossible ! She was upset and sick to her stomach.

Sorry she took no pics of this oddity. She put it down the garbage disposal. Thanks for the welcome. I have spent hours in the coop design section over the last week. Bought 15 Easter eggers and need more room.
