unformed egg?

I'm new to chickens and my four girls have only been laying for about a month. Today I noticed something hanging from the rear of one the Ameraucanas, it looks like an unformed egg. Is this a sign of disease?

Probably not any disease, just a glitch in the egg-laying process. Since your pullets are just starting to lay, it is likely that they are working any kinks out of their systems. Occasionally there is a quality control problem and then things will go right back to normal.

Thanks! Your post and some archived ones I found made me feel so much better! It was rather alarming seeing her drag that nasty looking thing around
