Unhatched egg

Very sad morning. Checked on the egg when I got up and the duckling had passed away. He had made a good sized whole in the egg and had started to zip. His beak was sticking out of the egg so I'm really not sure what happened. Went to check on the other 2 in the brooder and the clubbed foot baby had passed away as well. In his case it is probably for the best. If he had made it, he had a very long road ahead of him. I will be looking for a duckling so the remaining baby won't be alone.

I’m so sorry! I hope you can find a buddy or two for you lone little one. A mirror and a stuffed animal can help a lot.

Picked up 2 babies from TSC. Looks to be a Pekin and a khaki campbell. They are a little older than my loner but it doesn't seem to matter. Everyone is happy and doing well. My hatched baby looks like his dad (mallard) for the most part except there are 2 black lines on the face, a yellow dot on both sides of the tail and a little white here and there. Suprisingly the feet are black like moms (khaki campbell). I expected this is what the ducklings would look like being that khakis are part mallard.

Oh and we are still working on names but the kids say the pekin looks like big bird so that is her nickname for now.
