How long should I let mom set on the nest after the first egg has hatched?

Usually, she will eventually get off to feed the chicks that have hatched. How many more eggs does she have that hasn't hatched yet?

I had to move her nest to a safer place after the first one hatched and now she won't take him back. 9 more to go and he was born this am.

It's dark outside. I'm off to put the noisy little peeper under his mama. I hope she takes to him now.
* she didn't stir much. I just slipped him under her wing and he shut right up. I hope he's there in the am

Not only did mama take the first one, I heard another peep as well. Now I know...don't mess with the hatching process!

So, back to my original message...I only gave her 2 eggs but she ended up with 10 and I'm not sure when she acquired them. How long should I let her keep the unhatched eggs? I only had 1 broody hen.
