Unifour Poultry Show(moved from Salisbury to Morganton, NC) - March 5

Well my Buff Brahma got a 3 out of the Brahmas (but the Brahma lady was a serious competition, she had some gorgeous Brahmas

), while my Silver Lace Cochin got a Best Variety nomination, but that's all. I don’t believe I will do it again. I'm please with the results.

My family and I attended the Unifour Poultry Show in Morganton, N.C. on Saturday driving all the way from just outside of Charleston, S.C. (5 hour trip one way). I'll have to say it was a big disappointment and a wasted trip. My impression was that it was nothing more than a local competition and the "show" part never happened. As soon as the judges finished working an isle bird owners started pulling their birds out of the cages and going home. By the time we got there at 11:30 a.m. many of the cages were empty and by 12:30 we were leaving because there was nothing left in the cages to look at. The announcer practically had to chase the award recipiants down in the parking lot to give them their awards. I understand the weather was nasty but if you're going to publicize that you're having a show, the least you can do is leave the birds there long enough for the public to see them. I wont waste my time (or gas) doing that again.

Sorry to hear you feel that way. Did you come find the fellow BYCers? DW and I took 2 friends with us, we weren't showing but even with the bad weather we still enjoyed meeting up with fellow BYCer's, getting information about birds, how to care for them etc....... Are there not more local shows to you?

If I couldn't get to a show before 11:30am I wouldn't bother. The shows are more of a morning event. That is why we advise those that are just there to look to be arrive between 9 and 10am.

There were birds in the cages still at 2 PM.. I know that is when I removed mine to go home. But I can also understand what they are talking about to. I find it frustrating that birds are leaving before the judging is completed as well. But it happens at every show I have attended.

Alot of shows have the rule in the catalog that if you leave early you forfeit your placing or they at least say no early coop-out, but I have yet to see a show enforce it. It would be nice if everyone had to leave their birds in till all birds have been judged. Though that would make alot of people mad. Some just go for the awards or whatever. I go for the birds and the talk(gossip). This may be one reason I have lost interest in showing my birds.
