I found one of my hens dead this morning at around 11:40 (11 AM)on the ground near the fence they used to sleep. She was doing well yesterday:she ate well, had energy and laid her last egg so i don’t think she was sick but i would still like to know what happened to her to get closure as i’m devastated and heartbroken. She was my sweet little angel and i will miss her beyond words.
Based on the red color of her face, she was dead for about one hour add or take (i could be wrong) but her body was already hardened.
They used to sleep on the fence (it was around 1.50 meters tall) so they would fly every morning or every night to get up or down. They wake up at around 6 morning maybe a little more early so i don’t know if her cause of death could’ve been her landing since she would have been awake for around 4 hours. She also didn’t have any teeth/claw marks on her or any blood on her.
I have some pictures in case someone could tell me what went wrong..

Sorry for your loss. I have lost hens before unexpectedly. Sometimes they may have symptoms of illness that we don’t notice. It is hard to know what may have killed her without getting a neceopsy/autopsy by your state vet. Some of us do necropsies at home to look at the organs for anything unusual. If you should do one, please post your pictures. If you plan to send her to your state vet, keep the body cold, but not frozen.

Sorrt for your loss. Any sign of fowl play? I mean did maybe another rooster or hen fight with her? My birds are 99% peaceful but have seen a hen murdered before and never saw who did it.
