I was given a chicken by a patient from my clinic. She was basically given this rooster from someone else who was raising chicks and didn't want a rooster. The foster mom tried finding a place and a rooster farm said they'd take him but fell through so she randomly asked and I said sure I have 9 chickens I don't mind another and I have one rooster but he's chill. I figure if the new one (who i got at 10 weeks?) ends up being a jerk then i'll just eat em. Turns out Toostie, or Toots for short, is quite pleasant. She kept him in the house and he walked around and is very affectionate to holding and petting. I get there to check him out and turn him upside down and feel....nothing. So in my head I'm thinking are we sure this is a rooster? She said he makes weird noises in the morning like he's trying to crow. I have one or two hens that make occasional "crowing" efforts so i don't think that's a big deal. I personally think it's a hen.
However...I don't know about the breed. It's all black with some golden specks. At first i thought the specks were vitamin deficiency as they're just on the tips of some feathers but they're more consistent now. he/she/it has a few long tailfeathers with a good sheen so that made me think rooster, but my black australorp hen does too. The comb is quite small and stunted like my silkie rooster. My hens had bigger combs at that age so I'm confused. At first i thought australorp but now I don't know.
It's not a svarthona or cemani bc no black skin. Other than the gold specks it looks just like an australorp to me except for the stunted comb.

10 weeks is just a little too young to see male saddle feathers in most breeds (they *might* be coming in if you part the feathers ahead of the tail and look underneath).

He has a male look to him, which probably isn't very helpful, and colored leakage on his shoulders, which is a very common trait in male crossbreeds.

His smaller comb is a rose comb. If the bottoms of his feet are white I'd guess that he's half Australorp and half Gold-Laced Wyandotte.

(edited because I re-read it after another cup of coffee and realized that I'd been confusing).
