Hello Folks!

We got this lil guy in a shippment of Turken roos the day after Easter. We call him June Bug. He earned the name by saving my wife from one of the dastardly beetles that had found it's way in and was flying about inside as we were watching the chicks the first night in their new Big Coop.

I'm assuming he's the "Free Exotic Chick" from MMcM's, but I can't ID his breed. Any ideas???

His shanks are light olive, more like a buff turken than an amercuana. His hackles look to be penciled redish. I was thinking maybe a NHR but the NHR pullets I have have different colored legs.

He almost has the stance of a Cornish but has a single, not a pea, comb. I guess he could be a cross of somesort but I was under the impression that MMcM's only sells pure bred chicks.

The pic quality isnt too hot but he is a rambuncious little feller and hard to get him to stop for a pic.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Update: Well, as you can see, Junebug has grown into a fine looking young rooster. Still undecided as to his background, but it really isn't important to me. He's turning out to be a really cool bird, laid back and friendly.

I forgot to mention, as a chick he was almost white with no markings. The buttercups are dark with some stipes.

Nice job on the willow colored shanks on the BCs, tho. My wife, the CSI, would give you kudos for that.

hmm, this is a tough one isn't it?

I'm very interested now. What about a Blue Andalusian? It said chicks can be white, and they don't all actually turn out to be blue. Maybe he's on his way to being a darker color?

CSI is one of my favorite shows,

so I won't stop until its solved of course. Keep posting photos, I'm curious to see what he turns into. (and I'm sure when I get my shipment from murray I'll be curious about my free rare chick too).

It is a tough one to figure out. But I can tell you for sure its not a Blue Andalusian. I raise Blue Andalusian the chicks are in color white = splash , black = black , blue = blue the chicks don't change color the splash chicks are white at hatch and get some blue splash feathers mixed over there body. The leg color is blue slate.

Id say your chick is a Easter egger.

I'm not all that experienced with that many breeds, but I have a EE pullet who looked just like that and has feathered out to look identical to my Buttercups, save her muffs and beard. Incidentally, in her 2 siblings, 1 looked clean-faced and has feathered out to have fuzz where the others have giant beards and muffs- we call her 'Cindylou Who, the smallest beard of all.'

It could be a scant-bearded EE, doncha think?

'Cindylou Who, the smallest beard of all.' <~~ cute

Initially I thought EE, but he has a single comb. I'm no expert when it comes to chickens but I thought EEers had pea combs, so I had ruled out EE.

Either way he's turning into a good looking bird with a friendly nature. I'll post some more pics in a week or so.

Anyone know of a breed that has willow shanks?

I'm not sure why, or if, it even matters. Curiosity I suppose..

Thanks.
