unless someone talks me out of it...

with solid finality in his voice

yeah... i know that tone.

All they try to do since I let them out is run back and forth around the fence line trying to get in with the chickens. It has been a couple weeks now too.

let me know how that goes

thanks for all the great feedback. have not heard back from that guy yet...so here's hoping...

i was out there most of the day ripping out the shattered remains of my pumpkins. i even had a Scarlett O'Hara moment... as heaven as my witness i'm gonna get rid of these stupid squash bugs!!! (angrily shaking dead vines at the sky)

i'm actually really excited. i just want to double check so i dont get the surprise i had with little goats. all i heard was EVERYBODY loves them!.. well turns out i dont
;-)

full sized milkers for everyone!

I got adults. Mistake. They were nuts. They got out and went to my neighbor's house. They finally came back only to sit on the chicken coop roof and scream. Then they started on my very young geese, pulling out their feathers. They did have that pacing thing down.

I sold those to someone set up for breeding. Another friend took two from the same original seller and has had great luck with them.

I have 3 keets in my brooder right now, but I'm still undecided. I want to raise them up with my chicks, but free ranging them may be impossible if they don't like my waterfowl. I do see that they are faster than the chicks in the brooder.

Just my experience.

thanks beccaOH - good to keep my eye out for the crazy ones
;-)

ma2babygurl13 - wouldnt you know it - i was just outside if springfield on saturday!!! drat - i'm way on the other side of columbus
:-(

i'm still excited but it sounds like little ones are the way to go and to keep them cooped for a while. so maybe getting them now for next years bugs might be a good strategy

:)

They are GREAT for tick control and make some neat noises__outside of their obnoxious ones that is.

well if you make a trip this way anytime soon...let me know... I have 10 keets ready now... a few more in the incubator.... and will be setting like 6+ dozen in the incubator in about a week....

They are very noisey. Make sure they are far enough from your house that they don't drive you crazy. Also, mine used to harass my turkey hens. It was kind of funny seeing this guinea half the size of the turkey chasing it. I had to seperate them.
On the positive side though, they are very good eating, excellant alarms, and very self reliant. I like them because they are right on the border of being wild and domestic. They haven't quite made up their mind which they are.

The only reason not to have guineas is that the great thing about them is their ability to eat bugs etc. That by defintion means they roam a lot. For all their alarm abililty they seem quite susceptible to predators. They seek a private place to lay and set and can easily be taken by all forms of guinea eaters. Be prepared to either keep em locked and they really dont like it very much, or be prepared to lose some to the predators.

I kept mine locked for some time and got tired of listening to them complain about it and turned em loose. Yes I have lost a few.

thanks for all the great advice everybody! i'm not amped up then ever. i love how ziggywiggy said that they were: right on the border of being wild and domestic.

whee!

Say, do you sell hatching eggs? Are you NPIP? Would love to get some more. You're not that far from me (I'm in northern KY.) What colors do you have?
