Kudos to you for taking care of these ducks. They are lucky to have you on their side.

I think it's a wonder they have survived, even with your help, on the canals for four years. Trading their "freedom" for safety might be a good deal for them. I once took in a stray cat who always wanted to "escape" back into the nearby woods where coyotes lived. One day, she was successful; I couldn't find her anywhere and eventually, I had to go into town. When I returned, there she was sitting by the back door. Freedom, it seemed, wasn't all she remembered it to be. She never tried to leave the house again.

Swimming in a kiddie pool in your yard wouldn't be the same as the expanse of the canals, but it might be enough, along with a rudimentary shelter and that premium food you are already buying. He already trusts you enough to allow you to pick him up, and she is likely to go where he goes.

Please keep us posted on how you and the ducks are doing. BTW, they're beautiful.
