Yes.Can we at least agree 3 day old naked necks are cuter than adults?
with selective breeding, sometimes people will look at only one trait and forget to look at the overall bird. so if the, for example, production leghorn was exclusively bred for egg laying and all health traits were ignored - especially when you consider that commercially the birds have next to no exposure to pathogens and are only kept for up to 2 years anyway so the original breeders didnt really care if they were hearty past that... additionally, the lack of exposure to pathogens means you aren't naturally weeding out the ones that would get sick and die in a normal environmentWell some of them have crazy angry personalities (my broody game hen killed a rat). I don’t know what genetically makes them more disease resistant.
They are more of a wild chicken type.Well some of them have crazy angry personalities (my broody game hen killed a rat). I don’t know what genetically makes them more disease resistant.
I agree. Many of the heritage breeds are losing many traits due to hatcheries as it is. We don’t want breeders who actually care to start slacking too.Who said this?? I think they should.
Well atleast you are not bias. They are also better than all other breeds.
Gotta agree with the origonal opinion. We have so many kids that are so excited with their birds that leave the fair in tears because someone said that their bird wasn't worth a crockpot to cook it in.Who said this?? I think they should.
Though I‘m a chicken snob so I am a bit biased.I agree. Many of the heritage breeds are losing many traits due to hatcheries as it is. We don’t want breeders who actually care to start slacking too.
Well at least you are honest.Though I‘m a chicken snob so I am a bit biased.
Well I see what your saying but if you want to show, get a show bird. If you want pets then get the birds who’ve been bred terribly at a hatchery. Hatchery birds have no SOP but somehow each breeds shape looks very similar. I find it ugly and quite boring.Gotta agree with the origonal opinion. We have so many kids that are so excited with their birds that leave the fair in tears because someone said that their bird wasn't worth a crockpot to cook it in.
Beginners are there to learn and improve, and that usually means they start with hatchery birds and not ones that cost a whole paycheck.
