Hard to tell them apartOh, yeah, I agree. Just having birds of the exact same color is boring.
My rir us not mean just aloof but was a buffer when I added my 2 more juvenile chicks to flock. Plus they are such hearty birds.I've never had Fayoumis or Welsummers, but I kind of agree with the RIRs. I love my RIR Maisie, but she is mean and hates everyone. She has pecked me, hard, on several occasions.
But, she was also best friends with a BR I had named Oreo who had a hernia. When Oreo got really sick with EYP, I separated her from the flock and brought Maisie with her to keep her company. Then, one day, I heard Maisie yelling from the garage where I had them in a pen. I ran to see what was wrong, and I found Oreo collapsed on the floor. She died a few hours later.
Maisie not only kept Oreo company in her last days, but she also told me when Oreo wasn't doing well. I really love Maisie for that.
He's pretty stinking cute for sure!Let's see if you still think that after you see my sweet little frizzled cochin bantam cockerel, Papaya.

That’s because I went through the Master Gardener program in 2007. Before that it was medical transcription for a major university. So, why not, botanical drawings of chickens? Makes perfect sense to meOH OK. Botanic refers to plants, so I was super confused.
Ba ha ha I see what you meanI knew it would be too specific for most people to agree with, but hence unpopular. I just find single combs really attractive. I have tons of others, but I wouldn't mind breeding those out and retaining only the single combs.
And the legs. 1000% aesthetic preference. I have a list ranked criteria I try to breed for. Legs are at the bottom, but boy are they on that list. Anything but yellow. Rubber chicken, anyone?
