I have a rooster, his name is Jack. My dear husband thinks my fear of him is unrealistic. Here is a link to a short film we made last night, my dear husband is trying so hard to help me with this. We are doing another sesson this morning.

My daughter thinks I need to go on the Maury show for unrealistic fears and phobias. I sure hope I can conquer this, since watching the video, I know how goofy I look, and how bad he was not last night. We will see what today brings.

For Steph! I love the "Ghost Hunter" feel of the film!

Jack's mean??? Where? I didn't see it! I saw a groggy rooster, blind in the dark, freakin' out and flapping away from something touching him that he couldn't see too well.
Maybe Denise needs to just go sit in a chair in the corner of the coop for a couple days - with a feed-cup in her hand, and get aquainted with Jack easy-like! Dad can stand by if any referreeing needs doin'. Take yer time - it'll come! Roosters are like most guys... they love the woman who fixes Eats!

I like your husband's perfectly exasperated "Come in here! Touch this bird!"

I would have to agree with Wolf, you have to win over Jack with food. My DH says that's why he married me, I can cook with the best of em. Oh, and Jack, totally not attacking you. Go in there, TOUCH THAT BIRD! hehehehe

I will give you some sympathy Denise. I am afraid of Jack too. He is a pretty intiminating bird. I have been stalked by this bird and it feels like a scene out of Hitchcock's The Birds. Remember the scene when the lady goes up to that farmers bedrom and finds him dead with his eyes pecked out!

I know that it is unrealistic, and I used to be fine around him, He did not scare me in the least. Then one day he kinda puffed up and came at me and ever since then... Now he is really not a bad bird, he protects his girls very well. And I really don't want to get rid of him, but I cannot go in the coop and take care of things. My husband is great, and he has actually been spurred by Jack, but they have come to an understanding since then. And my husband is really trying to help me with this. So we will work on it and hopefully, I will snap out of it!!

I think hotwings scares my wife with these hitchcock stories. She did good today...I will upload video two in a few minutes.

thanks for the support. My wife needs all the encouragement she can get.

I love the large tree branch roost for them, BTW. My coop's not large enough for that. although I do have a natural roost.

What is your fear based on, out of curiosity? Have you been attacked by a rooster in the past... or have you seen someone attacked by a rooster? Or is it just that you know they can be mean? In the two videos, Jack doesn't seem even to be paying any real attention to you, and does seem to be a pretty mellow kinds guy. (Pretty fellow, too!)

I'm crossing my fingers with this current hatch, because I mean to keep a roo out of it, so I'm hoping I get a real gentleman, and it's tough to sort out what to do when you hear such conflicting advice. "Show him who's boss!" and "Treat him with respect" are two sides that are rather at odds. I'm of the Respect camp, myself, although I don't think I would ever allow him to think he was in charge of me. I just don't want him to see me as a threat.

<shakes head>

I'm so confused.

I love that too, it seems to be getting a bit slick, so we are thinking about replacing it soon.

Earlier this year he kinda puffed up and came toward me. This is something he had never done to me before. He has spurred my husband, when he was in the coop doing stuff. And they have come to an understanding since then. He is very protective of his girls and will puff up and has chestbutted people before.

I know exactly what you mean here. Its kind of a fine line for me. And maybe because I don't fully understand chicken language is partly why my fear is so unrealistic.
