Hello,
I need some help with this issue please. First of all, I have lost three chickens to a mystery disease. Two roosters and a hen. I noticed they would fall down and not get up. I could get them up and they would be fine for awhile but eventually I would come back to a dead chicken. Happened the same with all three of them. I have a friend with a lot of experience with chickens and she suggested Corid in the water. I have done this. I’m in mississippi and it’s like 101 degrees and we are under heat advisories EVERY DAY. My husband thinks this could be the problem. Also I haven’t gotten any eggs in like a month. I’m guessing that’s due to the heat too. Im kind of at my wits end because I have expanded their coop, switched their food, got them new nesting boxes, medicated them, new roosts and still no eggs and dying chickens. They were laying pretty well earlier in the year. Help….

Do you have much shade around the coop, run, and where they free range? Heat can be deadly. I put out extra shallow pans of shaded water and food where all can get enough, and they can stand in the water to cool off. Around 3-4 I change the water so that it is cool. I would look for any mold or toxins in their area. How old were the ones who died? Any details you can think of may help. If you lose another, keep the body cold, not frozen, and bring it to your state vet lab for a necropsy. Here is a list of state vet labs to contact:

Thank you for your thoughts on this. I have researched mareks but their legs are never paralyzed… not sure about vaccines. When I got them they were grown already. They are from two different flocks but have been together for a couple of months now. Half of them are under 2 years old. Not sure about the other half. They may be older. I will say that the only ones that have gotten sick were from the second flock I got and I think they are older.
