Hi everyone!

If you read my recent posts on my loud Australorp, you would know that I live in the suburbs and am having problems with the loudness of my chickens. Yesterday they were at it at it again (all the hens not just the BA)! Today, I want out for eggs and I found a BA egg with red spots on it. Does this mean the laying for these hens is painful and that is the cause of the noise? If this means laying hurts them, what is the cause of this and how can I stop it?

Hillary and Friend's eggs is the name of my egg "company", Hillary being the name of my first chicken.

I don't think it actually means it's painful. But I am sure it is painful. And remember my reply in your other post.....When my girl first started laying, she was noisy too and all the other girls would go crazy after she would lay her egg. That was because SHE was screamming up a storm!

it is not unusual to see a little blood on eggs esp. for new layers. The noise should get better but every now and again one will really sqwak when a big one comes out. Also I have a RIR that paces in and out of the coop hollering anytime another girl is sitting in HER nesting boxes.

thanks for the help!

I just thought I heard somewhere that the blood spots meant pain... Now I know better!

I don't know I believe it really hurts them in the begining!! Not sure how it can be proven true or false!! I hear people talk about the egg song, but here it's more like the egg massacre.. You get a couple of them laying and you wonder who's in there torturing them!! Man, what a horrible racket!! Poor babies!! It's like the opera where their working up to a crescendo where they get louder and louder and the boom total silence!! I have 15 babies that are 23 weeks old that I know for a fact 12 of them are laying and there eggs are steadily getting bigger & bigger so I guess that's why it happening!! My older girls never make that much noise!!
