Ah, yes, I can see small(and very determined) birds getting in there.
I'd just wad up some HC or chicken wire and stuff it in that hole.

Plan on no openings larger than 1/2" diameter anywhere, to keep rodents and weasels out. Wild birds aren't helpful, and hard to discourage, if your chickens can go outside at all. Mites and lice are brought in often, very aggravating!

Yes, I hate parasites with a burning passion. Gonna make sure this coop/run are Fort Knox before my birds go outside.
