Hi can anyone help. One of our chickens has been deteriorating over the past week. She seems very bunged up at the back (a lot of poop built up) her poop is bright green and runny and she can only pass a small amount at a time. She isn't walking well and waddles. She seems very swollen around the belly area. She is eating and drinking OK but still seems lethargic. We have been feeding her natural yougurt but doesn't seem to be doing anything. Had anyone experienced this with their hens and if so do you have any advice? Thanks

Just want to let you know you put this post in the new member introduction, you could get a much more informed answer if you post this in the emergency or sick chicken section. I recommend bringing her to the vet. Best of luck!!!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry to hear you have a sick girl :hugs Sounds like she could be egg bound. Is she of laying age? If so when did she last lay? Here is an article on egg binding. Just click on this link https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/egg-binding-symptoms-treatment-and-prevention
How you have described her sounds like symptoms of it. Swollen, poopy and waddling.
Lots of tips on how you can help your girl in the article.

Wishing you the very best of luck with her and hope she is well soon :frow

Hi thanks for your advice. Our chickens stopped laying over year ago, we sometimes get very small eggs from our other hen. I will have a look at that link thank you :-)

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your sick hen, hope they can help in the Emergencies forum.

Thank you kelsie. We are waiting for our local chicken vet to call us as she won't let us examine her. Hopefully they will be able to do something. She is sleeping under a bush in our garden at the moment.

How old is she? Is she one of the high production crosses like red stars, Isa browns, cinnamon queens, etc.? They tend to produce many eggs in the first two years or so, then slow down -some die of reproductive issues.
