There will be an Exotic Animal & Bird Auction @ Perham on Oct. 3rd. Starts @ 10:00 a.m. Unfortunately, they sell the chickens last and there are a lot of them. $ 6.00 cover. They'll still be selling chickens when the cows come home.

The same auctioneers also have one in Pierz Oct. 9th and 10th. They sell hoofed stock on the 9th and house birds, poultry and rabbits on the 10th. There is a $7 cover charge on Friday and $8 on Saturday. There will also be one in Long Prairie on Oct. 31st. I don't know what the cover charge is on that one yet.

I was there from 6:30 til about 11am and was set up along that back wall. Sold ALOT and came home with only what I wanted. Got a pair of diamond doves, a bunch of finches, couple lovebirds, and a young yellow golden pheasant rooster. My brother got a few doves and a blue goose (wild type). Sold alot of ducks, geese, quail, chickens, and only a few pigeons. I only came home with what I really didn't want to sell in the first place.

I thought there was a pretty good turnout. I saw alot of junk birds but quite a few decent ones too. Got to talk to alot of old friends and meet new ones too!

Thats great!

We got there a little before 11 and stayed the hour, when there wasn't even much left, so not much variety. But hard to get there when the drive is two hours and you have to get up and milk before hand.

Hopefully next time we can get there earlier.

Maybe I saw you and didn't even know it!

My sister and I went. I ended up selling 6 out of 10 OEGs that I had, which I thought was pretty good as my sister only sold 3 birds, 2 roosters and 1 call duck.
I controlled myself and didn't bring any home (Ineed to reduce my flock before winter) but my sister bought a pair of Reeves pheasants, a trio of quail, two call ducks and a pair of black swans. She was real excited about finding the swans there, she has been looking for a pair of blacks for awhile.
It was fun!

Amy,

I was reading up on the Oct. 10th and 11th show and I see that there will be a swap area. It states that cages are limited to 4 birds. What about quail? I can fit 20 comfortably for a day in a 2'x2' cage. Can I just bring my transportion coops or do I need to rent one of the BCPPA coops?

I also see that setup is on Friday afternoon/evening. Is this just setting up the cages and other show facilities or are people bringing thier birds? I have gone to these swaps, but never showed, sold or bought anything at them before. More questions than answers I am afraid

Hey Chris,
The guy running the sales area is Al Christle. His # is (507) 210-5741. I know he doesn't know how to barely run his cell phone or check his e-mail so just keep trying him.

I do know they have the 4 bird limit on there so people will NOT stuff all sorts of birds in 1 sale coop. Maybe selling outside with a small contribution (~$5 maybe) to the club might be a better idea. In all honesty, I don't know how well quail will go over at a poultry show. These people are there for the best only of chicken and waterfowl. Its not your run of the mill hatchery junk at all. I tried bringing some very nice rare breeds of pouter pigeons and couldn't get rid of a one there. Even on the chickens and waterfowl, expect to pay for quality... $5-15 will get you junk birds from their culls normally, $15-50 is the general range for most other birds.

As for scheduling, friday night the exhibitors roll in. They snatch up some of the really good birds for sale when they are first put out. Saturday morning is when the general public and all the exhibitors will be there. Most of the sales are done there.

There is a big swap this weekend in LeCenter on saturday mornign hosted by the MN Pheasant & Waterfowl Society. I'd try that one..... I think my mom and brother will be going. Not so sure about me...have to work that night.

Thanks Amy!

I was thinking that the A&M's were not going to fit in but I have some others that will do just fine. I'm completely new to making money in poultry

But i WILL be there to sign up for membership and to learn how these events work.

(now to properly identify the exotics I want to get rid of... I mean pass on so others may enjoy
