I need to get my spare cockerels out of the coop since they're 16 weeks and starting to spar a bit. I also need to get chickens onto my garden to work the soil. The car wreck back just before Thanksgiving set us behind so I'm trying to think of options.

What I've come up with, and I haven't even run it by my DH yet, is to put the brooder over there, move the picnic pavilion frame -- the one that lost it's cover to a bad hailstorm, over next to it, and wrap the frame with whatever random wire fence chunks I can find to keep birds inside.

It won't be predator-proof, but if I lose a few spare cockerels I won't be too upset.

What happened to your car? I hope you are ok!

We actually had two wrecks in less than a week.

Our middle and youngest sons were T-boned at an intersection, which totaled the Caliber. No one's fault, it's a bad intersection. They were a little sore for a few days but were fine.

Then a couple days later DH and I were coming back from delivering some pullets we'd sold on Craigslist and were T-boned in a nearly identical wreck -- except that it's difficult to hurt a Tundra by running into it in a subcompact (the guy blatantly ran a stop sign). The truck has some new scratches and dents to go with the old ones and needed a new tire -- because the rear passenger-side tire ran up and over his hood.

I've spent 6 weeks seeing the chiropractor but the major hit is to our family finances. We weren't planning on a car payment. :(

Thus I can't just order another fence kit from Premier 1 and have to improvise.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. Same thing happened to out friends. I hope everything will go well for you

Sorry about the wrecks, glad you all are ok

Look on CL for used wire to help spread the $$ but it soounds good to me for a temp area.
You also might want to see if someone wants to Swap some roos for wire or something else you might want??
Not sure how good CL is in your area but it doesn't hurt to look ;)

Some of them are already up for sale on Craigslist -- on the theory that a blue fellow might be worth more than a chicken dinner.
