**Update 3/2/11**Last sad update - Help help help quickly

Hi, I did pick them up at the post office yesterday morning. They knew I was expecting them, and called me as soon as they arrived at the post office. I was there within five minutes of the call, as I had just dropped my son off at school. I opened the box at the post office, and that is when I knew the drake probably wasn't going to make it. At first, I thought he was dead. He was struggling to survive. I was on the phone with Metzers before he even passed away. Then, I called them back when he did. Our mail comes from Phoenix, and then it is trucked up here. About a four hour drive. That is where I think they got into trouble yesterday

Will they also arrive in Phoenix in the middle of the night? I know it's a long drive, but perhaps you can ask them to hold them there (inside the building) and pick them up during the day before they ship out for Pinetop. That way, they can ride in the front seat of your heated car on the way back. I know that means that you have to spend just about your whole day driving, though, and that might be tough. If you knew they were coming the night before, perhaps you could stay overnight in town and get them as early as possible.

I know all of that is really pushing it and a lot to go through.

Gosh, I am learning a lot about our postal service. I found out that before our mail gets to Pinetop it stops in Show Low at 3:00am. I was always thought it came straight from Phoenix. Then, at 7:00am it heads to Pinetop where it arrives at 7:30am. Those poor ducks were in extreme cold from 3:00am to 7:30am. I have been trying to get in touch with the Show Low post office but no one is answering the phones. I am going to beg them to let me come get them at 3:00am, when they first get up here in the mountains. I am praying they work with me.

Just a thought....

Can Metzers include an extra heat pack for their journey this time?

And another thought...

Maybe you could wait another month for delivery until the cold weather has become less cold???

This is my first time ordering duck & chicks, so I based my decision on when to have them delivered on my garden planting schedule. Figured if it's safe to plant for my area, it's safe to have duck & chicks delivered.

Sorry for the confusion in posting above... My question/post was meant for azhenhouse as an addition to your suggestion that Metzers could possibly supply an extra heat pack since she mentioned she felt the cold weather was what caused the stress to the ducklings.

DuckLuvR, where do you live? I live in MA and don't usually get chicks/ducklings delivered until April at the earliest. If you're in a warm climate and are ordering from a warm climate you shouldn't run into any problems.
