UPDATE! CHICKS HATCHED!!!RIR Crossed with Dominate White

White Plymouth Rocks shouldn't be Dominate White.
If you cross a R.I. Red Rooster over a White Plymouth Rocks Hen you should get Sex-link offspring. (White/Yellow chicks a young roosters and the Red chicks are young pullets)

You'd get something like this.

Isn't that just if the RI whites are silver based? I thought there were some lines that aren't (hatchery lines mostly) and wouldn't reliably produce sexlinks. Am I confused here? I went with Delawares for my sexlink breeders specifically because of this.

I just had to edit and add that now I wouldn't take anything for my Delis ... they are AWESOME!

I'm new at genetics !!
I thought the hens could be either resessive or dominate.
based on their breeding
In a post that I found it said not to use white for crossing to get sexlinks

IDK, in my understanding you get gold sexlinks from crossing a silver-based white hen with a red roo. Some lines of RI Whites (or so I thought) carry the silver gene and others don't. I do know that when my red cochin roo got into my white cochin pen, I DID NOT get sexlinks from the cross ... they were white with red bleed through and a bit of black (almost columbian looking) and vice versa in both genders. I know cochins are wh/wh, so maybe that's the difference ...

I thought so too, but then "RAREROO" educated me... There's dominant white, recessive white, and silver. Silver is what you need to make Red Sexlinks.

The post you saw was probably referring to Black Sexlinks... White roosters most times won't work for making Black Sexlinks.
