::(One of my new chicks is really dinky. I got them on Friday, so they are 5 days old today. She was the smallest then and remains so today. The others seemed to have doubled in size, but she remains small an sleeps a lot, much like 4H kids and mom recently posted about one of her chicks.
While changing the bedding today, she was standing in the corner of the brooder sleeping, while everyone else was busy eating, drinking, climbing all over my hands and trying to taste my 'jellybean' fingernails.

So I stupidly tell myself, 'Aww, cummon PeeWee,' yes, I'd already named her, pick her up and try to interest her in the water. She wakes, drinks, seems ok, I put her back. PeeWee wanders around aimlessly ('uh-oh') gets pushed around by her sisters who are hustling and bustling, and manages to go back to her corner ('hmm' I thinks to myself).
I take her out, check her over, no pasty butt, and put her in her own little box under my desk lamp with me here by the keyboard. Shavings under a towel, sprinkled a little stater food on the floor, and a tiny container of water with marbles in it.
Begin to search threads for suggestions.
'PEEp,PEEp,Peep!' PeeWee is not happy to be alone. I lift the top to see that she managed to completely soak herself from the neck down in her water dish, then rolled all over the feed. Her own little version of shake'n'bake.
I am such a dope, but I didn't have any other container for water that would fit in there. I never thought she'd go for a swim!!
So now I go through a bunch of kleenex to try to dry her off. Got her wrapped in in my hand as I type, took pics, woops, big ol poop, reajusts, I clean up my desk, keyboard, hand

, and last pic is how she fell back to sleep.
She seems strong, pushes and stands on her feet, but I'm at a loss as to what to do about her lack of interest in eating. Tried boiled egg yesterday. help?

this is one of those times that I pull out the Pedialyte, I like it because it has the glucose in it. I usually make sure I've got some around. The glucose is for the energy boost she might need.

You could mix up some of the feed in a watery mash and see if the peep will take it that way.

OK, don't have pedialyte, can't find what I did with electrolyte/vitamim powder

, so how about a little sugar water?
And I'll try the wet mash now...

I'd put a buddy in with PeeWee too. As for going for a swim, if you fill the dish with stones or pebbles that will raise the level of the water so that she can't do it again...You can blow dry her too, on cool.
You might also have to head out to the petshop and get bird handfeeding formula...it has lots of vitamins and it can help put weight on a little birdy too.
I looked again. You did the marble thing. Don't mind me.

Thanks, guys.
Tried the wet mash, No go.

I put one of her sisters in. PeeWee walked around, leaned on walls, slept, got pushed around, peeped, peeped, peeped, while her sister also peep-peeeped and bounced around like popcorn wanting out.
Just didn't work. Put Popcorn out into brooder with others, wrapped PeeWee in Kleenex and held her while she slept and my hand went to sleep.
Woke every once in a while, gave her sugar water, she drinks and goes back to sleep.
Once she was all dry (don't own hairdryer - have wash-dry cut style) and warm, I placed her back in brooder with her sisters. It was nap time for them, so they all just settled to sleep together. Gonna keep my fingers crossed until tomorrow and head over the store for the pedialite. Kick myself for not having on hand...darnit!

PeeWee didn't make it overnight.
Now I have to go through the 'coulda-shouda-wouldas' for a while, but I know, like I just told someone else, sometimes they just don't make it.
Sigh...

Don't coulda, shoulda, woulda yourself. At least little PeeWee had a gentle hand and a soft voice to reassure her in her passing.

That's true, and it makes me feel better. Thanks!
Sounds silly, but while I was holding her last night, I kept talking to her and even kissed the top of her head! I can only hope for the same for me when its my time to go!

I'm not a particularly religious person, but one of my very favorite all-time quotes is:
"He prayeth best who loveth best all things both great and small."
If that's true, then there are many folks on this website who should get all their prayers answered, because we sure do love the tiny and helpless critters of the world!
