*Update* Horse Vent

Hey Ian.
My 2 cents here, for what it's worth...
You love Fee, I know that. Think about this: When things go well with mares & foals, it's all sunshine & rainbows. When things go wrong, though, they can go HORRIBLY wrong!
You know I can give you horror stories! I tried to breed my mare, and now I find myself extremely thankful it didn't take. One because I adore my baby Socks (Yup, OCD and all!) but also because if anything happened to the Princess, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself.
Could you?

On another note, while Fee is pregnant and raising a foal, who are you going to ride? And it is a LONG wait until a baby is old enough to do anything fun (other than show in halter, ya know?) And then sometimes you ave a baby with crooked legs, or OCD or who knows what else.

Lots of fantastic young started horses out there, that's where I'd look next, if it were me. Oh, and of course it would have to be an Arabian LOL:P

So ready for this?...

Okay i found her owner, two owners back, this is what i said:

I was wondering if you could tell me about the horse i have. I have a irish sport horse named Fiona that i heard you once owned. I was wondering if you could tell me about her history, maybe past owners? I am trying to track down her papers so i can qualify for year end awards with her though USEF.

Thanks, i can't wait to hear back from you -Ian

Her Reply:

Hi Ian, I really don't want to take out any of my Frustrations out on you because I'm sure you had no idea what was going on. Fiona was sold out from underneath me. Person1 was my partner/trainer with Fiona. She sold Fi without my knowing. I am glad however that she has a good home with you. The women I bought Fiona from has her papers and will not part with them because she has a signed contract stating that she wasn't supposed to sell the horse herself??? I don't know, it's a BIG mess! The women I purchased her from name is "Some Lady" and the last I heard she was trying to go to court to get Fiona back. I'm not trying to scare you or anything this is just what I was told. THere are many hurt feeling over Fiona and like I said before I'm just glad that she is doing well and that you are going places with her. Give her a kiss for me and feel free to call me if you have any questions.

My Reply:

Well i have some frustrations with Person1 so dont worrie about that i understand. I will let you know when i have shows and your more then welcome to come see her at them! She is a great horse. I thought there was a messy background when i got her but i loved her so i didnt really care. Thanks for the name of the person (im not going to get intouch with her) but im going to email the registry and see if i can get it through them with a DNA test. My Dressage trainer thinks we can do thrid level and if i would like to beable to qualify for year end awards with her though United states equstrian federation.

Againt thanks for the reply!

She replyed:
Well, Congradulations with all your accomplishments with Fiona. I would love to see you ride her and see how far she has come. She has always been such a sweet natured girl and I new that with the right trainer she could do well in anything, especially dressage. She looks great by the way! Sorry I couldn't help you out any more with answers and I wish that I had gotten her parents information at least that way it would be easier to do the D.N.A. with tail strand. I do know there are certain shows just for Irish Draughts and x's where the judges look over the horses conformation and get some sort of registration if found to be correct in the breed standard. I had the newspaper clipping with all the info on it, I'll try and find it and let you know but that was a few years ago. have tried looking online at all?
Well, thankyou for being so nice Ian, I will do my best to help you get the info so you can qualify for the year end awards. Take care and let me know the next time you have a show, I would love to watch and maybe take some pics if you don't mind.

SOOOO!

I called the registry and "Some Lady" does not own any irish drafts. So i talked to them and they said to get Fiona registered i have to first have a DNA test done to confirm she is an irish sport horse, then find out who her sire is. So that means running DNA tests to each stallion in the registry, which is about 60. Then they will narrow it down to horses that were breeding during the seasons she was bred (which would be a range of three years) and then once we find him, i can get her re-registered.

A lot of work!!! But i really want to solve her mystery... maybe she isn't even an irish sport horse! lol And if she is and i can get her papers i want to try and get a year end award through the North American Irish Sport Horse Registry!

You can contact the association and tell them you would like a DNA kit. They usually cost about $50.00 Once you receive it, follow the instructions. That should tell them her lineage.

Good Luck!

Thanks! That's what im doing! This should be interesting!

Do the DNA if it isn't exorbitant. I dunno. I'm not saying that she isn't an Irish Sporthorse, but around here, you'd know if you bought one. Your wallet would be considerably lighter

They generally start at $20k. I do live in an expensive area, though. Sounds like there was a lot of malficence going on with the people buying and selling her, so I suppose stranger things have happened.

Yeah, everything is word of mouth, but we didnt pay alot for her. Im definitely doing the DNA test for breed to see what she is and then go from there. She is pretty well put together, ya know how draft crosses look like draft crosses? she doesn't she looks like she is supposed to be something. lol does that make sense?

Go for it! What do you have to lose? DNA kits are cheaper trying to get all the stallions out there. Wish you all the luck and do keep posting what you find out.

I do not know what legally that woman can have on your horse. Once the horse is sold, there isn't much she could do after she went thru a few owners. The papers she has on Fiona, isn't worth anything without the horse behind it. I've done that before and eventually I gave the papers back to the folks that bought my stallion, now gelded. Just before he passed away a year prior, she thanked me for the papers and asked me why. I was cleaning out files and figured that instead of taking up space, let the papers go to his new owners because I have seen how well he was taken care of and being loved by everyone including the zoo staff.

I am not sure if you can talk to this person having the papers but if you think you would not get anywhere, then keep digging. Is there a way you can track down Fiona's dam's owner?

Hi. My name is Iris Peppers. I'm responding to your post about Ibn Bahar. I know your post was from 2010. I'm hoping you know more info about him since you mentioned a friend had rescued him. I worked on the farm during the time he was born which was Shimmering Star Arabians in Sanford, MI. His breeder was Cory (Knopic) Sayen. His father Greystone Bahar was bred at Greystone Arabians and his mother was Bint Karmir. I spent time riding both of them. I'm sorry to hear that he fell into a bad situation. I'm wondering if he is still living? He was born in March 1979. I sure would appreciate it if you could let me know if he is? He was such a sweetheart. Also a friend of mine had bought Greystone Bahar later in life and did some breeding. It's ironic that your response mentions that he had heaves. His father had heaves as well and was eventually given to Michigan State University for doing research on it. So we both would like to know if he indeed living and would love to be able to get in touch with the person who owns him. My e-mail address is: [email protected]. Thank you so very much. Iris
