That's nice enough to double as a guest house for visitors who've had a bit too much and can't drive home!

Congratulations, those are some lucky chickies!

good job looks great it would look even better with maroon paint and white trim.
trust me its a good color combo.

Sara,
The coop is a great addition to your backyard! It must be nice to look out and see this beautiful building, or to go sit outside with the hens and just enjoy things for a bit.

Thanks for all the photos; the inside is as nice as the outside. I have to ask what type of siding you used... can you paint it without any preparation?
The hens certainly look happy.
I vote for a red coop... when ya got it, flaunt it!

Very, very nice.

And I like the idea of the "roost near the windows so they can look out". I have a coop with the roost next to a window and every night they argue over who gets the window seats!

It is fabulous!

I'm so glad you finally got the coop you wanted. The carpenter did an awesome job. Can't wait to check the other pic out on your page.

What was your flocks reaction when you moved them in it?

BTW- I'll check the paint color and get back to you.

An off topic question: I was trying to avoid putting my roost in front of windows because I was afraid of drafts. Is that really stupid of me? What if it's windy out? What if it rains and I'm not home to put the plexiglass on? Not that they would be inside during the day anyway, I guess. Should I definitely put roosts by the windows?

I have two coops with large windows in the center of one wall. The windows have plexiglass on the outside and hardware cloth on the inside. When it warms up in the spring the plexiglass is removed and I don't put it back until late fall. Those open windows all summer provide lots of extra ventilation and the birds love it. If it gets a little windy or rainy the birds will just scootch over a bit.

A roost in front of an open window is usually "prime real estate" in the chicken world!
